About the Pragmatics Lady

Natasha Boyd has been a speech pathologist for over 35 years. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Master of Arts degree in Education (Speech Pathology and Audiology) from San Jose State University. Ms. Boyd began her teaching career in San Jose, California and has worked for the Elk Grove Unified School District in Elk Grove, California for the past 29 years. Ms. Boyd is also a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Over the years she began to recognize that her students were impaired due to their ineffective communication skills. In 1994, she developed a program using pragmatics as the foundation and began delivering it to her students. The positive results and feedback were so profound, that she began delivering the workshop to students and staff members throughout the school district. She now provides this invaluable training to businesses and organizations beyond the public education system. Ms. Boyd has taught thousands of students and has presented hundreds of workshops and seminars throughout California focused on improving verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

What is Pragmatics?

Pragmatics is the use of non-verbal communication such as eye contact, voice inflection/volume, and hand movements/gestures etc. It is an important part of what makes someone an effective public speaker. Moreover, pragmatics contributes to the cultivation of “soft skills”, which facilitates meaningful interactions and more effective collaborations. From the classroom to the board room, we can improve and enhance your communication skills. Our techniques will allow you to become a more confident public speaker and more impactful communicator. We know it’s not what you say, but how you say it. Let’s say what we mean and mean what we say!
